Study of a man in a coat standing

On a tall thin rectangular off white sheet, light graphite lines depict a male standing figure, filling most of the narrow space. The young man stands facing the viewer, looking downward, tucking his chin into the collar of his coat and hunching his shoulders up. He holds his right forearm in front of his chest and tucks his hand into his buttoned coat. His left hand is jammed deep into his pocket at his side. Light shading indicates the folds of his clothing.

Claude says... This appears to be a delicate pencil sketch on light-colored paper. The drawing shows a standing figure in what seems to be a full-length pose. The sketch is quite faint and minimalist, with light pencil strokes defining the basic form and clothing. The proportions suggest this is a vertical composition, with the figure taking up most of the height of the paper. The details are subtle and the overall effect is quite ethereal due to the lightness of the pencil marks. It has the quality of a preliminary study or quick observational drawing that an artist might make.
