NEW BUILDINGS AT BEAR MOUNTAIN

Three new buildings have been erected at Bear Mountain for the Trailside Museum of Natural History, which opened for the season May 1. The buildings were erected by Civilian Conservation Corps under direction of William A. Welch, general manager and chief engineer, and John Tamsen, park superintendent. The wooden craft house and garage were replaced by buildings of native stone, and a new Geology Trail has been constructed. A new museum building, also of native stone, has been built. The new museum will house exhibits of minerals and rocks of the region, relief models, reference collections, and a library. New stone steps and bridges have been built along the trail at several points. A new approach has been constructed from the Palisades Parkway to the museum and parking space and other improvements have been added.

A monument has been erected in honor of Stephen T. Mather, first director of the National Park Service. This consists of a large boulder set on a pedestal of seven-ton blocks. The monument will be unveiled by Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt at dedication ceremonies on the occasion of the meeting of the National Conference on State Parks to be held May 23-26. William H. Carr, assistant curator of education, is in charge of the Trailside activities at Bear Mountain.

FIRST UNIT FOR INDIANA PIONEER MUSEUM

The Madison County Historical Society, Anderson, Indiana, has selected the log cabin for the first unit of its projected pioneer village museum in the Mounds State Park. The cabin has been torn down and the logs numbered preparatory to being moved to the park, where it will be rebuilt on a site facing State Road 67 near the main drive. The reconstruction work is under direction of E. P. Lacey, park superintendent.

ANNUAL MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

CHICAGO MEETING PROGRAM HAS HUNDRED TEN SPEAKERS, TWENTY-TWO SESSIONS AT FOUR MUSEUMS

The program of the Chicago meeting of the American Association of Museums, June 12-14, sets a new high level. One hundred ten speakers and discussion leaders have already been scheduled. This is the largest number for any meeting of the Association.

The three days of the meeting will be divided among the Art Institute, the Field Museum, the Chicago Natural History Museum, and the Museum of Science and Industry. The program and other announcements appear on pages 2 and 3. Attention is called again to the urgency of making hotel reservations at once. The last announcement of the News goes to press announcement is received from World's Fair authorities that all major buildings have been completed and that the fair will be in full operation on the opening day. The exposition will have buildings devoted to science, electricity, travel and transportation, and home planning. There will be a Federal building with a million-dollar government exhibit, a hall of states with exhibits from every state in the Union except perhaps Louisiana, and a general exhibit of the City of Chicago. In addition, there will be the buildings of the various nations of the world, including the Golden Temple of Jhelum, the great Mayan ruins of Uxmal, and the lagoon rides of Admiral Byrd's Antarctic expedition. The City of New York has a complete section with a replica of the new City Hall.

ELECTION OF COUNCILORS FINAL TICKET

The final ticket for election of members of the Council of the American Association of Museums for the three-year term 1933-36, following the nominations made at the Boston meeting, is as follows:

Members desiring to record their votes may do so by mailing their ballots to the office of the association in double envelopes.
