This fall, the Museum has been fortunate to have the services of an almost full-time volunteer, Mrs. Chris Nodine. Mrs. Nodine's husband, Bill, is attending the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. A native of Florida, Mrs. Nodine is working on her degree in painting and art history at the University of Southern Florida. In connection with her studies there, she served a four-month apprenticeship assisting the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Ringling Museum, the official art museum of the State of Florida.

The Nodines have made a point of living in different cities, especially in Europe. Of her time in New England, Mrs. Nodine says: "It's a pleasure to have the availability of so many excellent museums and libraries, and to see first-hand what I have seen in slides in my art history classes." Mrs. Nodine does oil painting and ceramics, and enjoys outdoor sports which can be done almost year-round where she lives in Florida. She has given invaluable, cheerful assistance in researching, organizing Friends' events, and conducting gallery talks.

BUSCH RECEIVES $15,000 MUSEUM SERVICES GRANT

In October 1978, the Museum received notice of a $15,000 award from the Institute of Museum Services for general operational support. This grant, one of only seventeen awarded in Massachusetts and 256 nationwide, will be used to revise our telephone system; to purchase office equipment; and to pay a portion of guards' and secretaries' salaries.

SEMINARS ON GERMAN ART

The Museum is pleased to offer six seminars on German art, conducted by Julia Phelps, on December 4 and 11; January 15 and 22; and February 5 and 12. In an informal setting, selected objects from the Museum's extensive collection will be examined. Their relationship to the broader context of German art will also be illustrated by means of slides and reproductions.

The seminars will take place from 10-12 on Monday morning at the Museum. For those who wish, luncheon may be arranged at the Faculty Club following the seminars. The seminars cost $40 for members, $60 for non-members, and are free for patrons of the Museum. For signup or further information, telephone 495-2317.

WÖLFLI EXHIBIT AND SYMPOSIUM

In September and October 1978, the Museum sponsored a very popular exhibit, the first retrospective of the works of Adolf Wölfl, a Swiss schizophrenic, who, in the Waldau Asylum for most of his life and died in 1930. In conjunction with the exhibit the Museum hosted a symposium on art of the insane on September 30. The symposium attracted over 250 people. Both the psychological and artistic aspects of Wölfl's art were discussed.
