Special Exhibit: July 5 – July 28: Contemporary Austrian Painting and Prints

This exhibit is a broad survey of contemporary Austrian art by older, more established artists as well as several young artists who represent the avant-garde in Austria today. The forty works to be exhibited include those of Hundertwasser, Ernst Fuchs, Hausner, Leher, Attersee, Rainer, and Kokoschka. The exhibit is on loan from Vienna's Central Savings Bank, which is known for its outstanding collection of Austrian art. On its American tour, the show is also being seen in Washington, Princeton, New York, and the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C.

Reviewing the showing of the works in Princeton, David Shapiro of the New York Times praised the works, stating that they show that the arts are alive in Vienna, a city not only of the past but also one that continues to nourish its artistic heritage in original ways. Although the works have an international look, they also possess the quality that could be seen as elements with a national flavor.
