FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEVERETT HOUSE TO PRESENT THE OLD AND THE NEW
The Busch-Reisinger Museum's Romanesque Hall will be the setting for two musical dramas chronologically separated by many centuries but sharing a common concern for man's relation to his God. The Leverett House Opera Society will produce the two works, The Play of Daniel, a medieval musical play, and Benjamin Britten's modern parable Curlew River, on April 24, 26, 30 and May 1 and 2, beginning at 8:30 p.m. each evening.
The Play of Daniel was reconstructed a number of years ago by Noah Greenberg, the late director of the New York Pro Musica. It caused something of a sensation when it was first presented at the Cloisters in New York, and continues to be a sell-out when it is performed in that city.
Curlew River is a stark drama by the celebrated English composer Benjamin Britten, who continues to explore the possibilities of religious music in a secular age.
Music director for the works is Martin Kessler. The stage directors are Charles Hechscher and Wakeen Ray-Riv.
Tickets are available at the Harvard Coop or Leverett House (phone 492-5257).
