BUSCH-REISINGER MUSEUM
OF GERMANIC CULTURE
HARVARD UNIVERSITY, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS 02138
21 January 1970
The Busch-Reisinger Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston are pleased to announce a three program concert series of 20th-century music. Richard Pittman, Associate Conductor of the New England Conservatory of Music, will lead the Boston Musica Viva, an ensemble comprising some of the finest musicians in the area, in each of the concerts. The first performance will be Wednesday, February 11th, at 8:30 p.m. in the Busch-Reisinger Museum and will include the following works: William Bolcom, Sessions III for five instruments; Klaus Huber, Askese for flute, speaker and tape (text by Günther Grass); Arnold Schönberg, Pierrot Lunaire, Op. 21, as arranged by Anton Webern for five instruments; Lukas Foss, Time Cycle for soprano and four instruments (Carol Bogart, soprano, soloist).
Although we expect a great deal of public interest in this series, members of the Busch-Reisinger Museum Association will have first opportunity to obtain tickets. Members should write the museum before February 1st to receive tickets. Because of severe space limitations the number of tickets must be restricted. After February 1st tickets will be available to the public.
The second concert in the series will be held Monday, March 16th, at 8:30 p.m. in Boston City Hall under the sponsorship of the I.C.A. This concert will be given in conjunction with the I.C.A.'s major exhibition "Crafts 1970" and will be limited to members and guests of the Institute of Contemporary Art. The final concert will be given Tuesday, May 5th at 8:30 p.m., again at the Busch-Reisinger Museum for our members. The programs will be announced shortly.
This is an exceptional chance to hear classic works of the 20th-century and some of the finest contemporary music being composed. I have heard Mr. Pittman conduct and I think this series is an important cultural event for both museums and for Boston as well.
